Activities for KGIC Toronto - June 2007

June 6th – Vacation Photo Contest Begins
Send Trevor your best photo from your week-long vacation. It can be of anything or anyone. The best photograph will win a great prize! You can email the picture to Trevor (toronto-activity@kgic.ca or alltogethernow@gmail.com).

June 7th – North by Northeast Opening Concert
Toronto’s most amazing exhibition of independent music starts this Wednesday. The concert series will last all weekend long. I encourage you to pick up NOW magazine to see the full concert details. If you like rock or punk music this is the summer concert series for you! Meet after class in the admissions area. The cost is FREE!

June 12th – Walking Tour of Downtown
At 4:30 on Tuesday I will lead the students downtown (by subway) to familiarize them with Toronto’s scenic and historic downtown core. Details: Meet after school at 4:30 in the student lounge area. Cost is FREE

June 13th – Yoga Club
Yoga Class on Wednesday with Tracy right here at KGIC. Join KGIC on the 4th floor for some introductory yoga after class. See Trevor to sign up, Maximum 12 spaces. Cost is FREE, but you should buy your own Yoga mat. See Trevor to find out a good place to buy your mat.

June 14th – Film Club
Anila’s Film Club. We watch movies, new and old from every country around the globe. Are you ready to experience some interesting movies you’ve never seen before? Well if you are a fan of film this is the place for you.
Details: Meet after class in the Ping Pong area to join the Film Club. The cost is FREE.

June 15th – Cooking Club
Join Nancy for some cooking tips and tricks. Meet at 2:30 on the 4th floor in the admissions area. Please see Trevor to sign up. Maximum 15 students.

June 15th – KGIC Soccer
Meet after class at 3:00 in front of KGIC to play some soccer after school. Enjoy with Omar and Randy Ray. We will have some games coming soon against other schools so practice hard!

June 16thToronto Island Tour
The weather is beautiful these days. How about heading to Toronto Island to take in the sights and skyline of Toronto? It will be a nice trip, just $6 will get you to the island. We will meet at Union Subway station on Saturday June 16th.

June 17th – Casa Loma
Toronto’s famous Casa Loma, a castle built for no reason in the centre of the city. It has a rich and interesting history, cost millions to build, and is now one of the most famous tourist destinations in the city. Join KGIC for a great tour of the Castle. The cost is just $12 a great discount of the regular price!

June 19th – CN Tower Tour
This is classic destination for KGIC Toronto. The CN Tower is Toronto’s most recognized landmark. Join us for a trip to the top and a look around. Don’t forget to test your nerve on the glass floor. Can you handle the heights? Details: Meet after school in the student lounge area. Cost is only $15.

June 20th – Major League Baseball (Toronto vs. L.A.)
JUST $18 DOLLARS for a Major League Game! Who will be the big winner? Details: Meet on Front St. in front of the Rogers Centre (Skydome) and CN Tower. Be there at 6:00 for your tickets.

June 21st – Club Night
We will have Club night on Thursday, because we have no school on Friday! You have to pay for what you eat and drink. Club entrance costs just $5. See Trevor to sign up and pay. The fun starts at 8:30 pm on Thursday night. Directions will be given out later.

June 22ndCanada’s Wonderland
Ontario’s premier theme park will be KGIC Toronto’s first big summer-time activity. We’ll head to York Mills subway station at 9:00 am on the 22nd of June and then travel to Canada’s Wonderland on a GO bus. Details: The Cost will be announced, please see Trevor to sign up and pay!

June 22nd – P.D. Day (NO SCHOOL)

June 24th – Gay Pride Parade
IT’S GAY PRIDE IN TORONTO! Join the more than 1 million people who show up for the parade every year. The parade begins at 2:00 pm on Sunday. Meet at Dundas Square near the Hard Rock CafĂ© Sunday at 1:00. Get ready for a very interesting time.

June 26th – We Will Rock You
Another fantastic musical at the Cannon Theatre. Tickets are available for this Wednesday performance. Choose from $35, $49 or $65 tickets! Sign up soon the tickets will sell quickly.

May 2007

May 1st – Interview Workshop

Job interview skills are difficult to develop. If you are interested in learning what might happen at a North American job interview please sign up and join the interview workshop. Details: Meet on the 6th floor at 4:30 (after class). Come to Bombardier classroom and be ready to take some notes. The cost is FREE!!

May 4th – Kensington Market

Trevor will show you one of his favourite areas in Toronto Kensington Market. Kensington is famous for its second-hand, vintage clothing, and independent designers. This is one of the best places in Toronto during the summer months. Join Trevor for outdoor market shopping at its best! Meet at 4:30 on the 4th floor.

May 5th – The Clothing Show

Now in its 30th year, The Clothing Show has become an unforgettable shopping experience to thousands of people in search of the unique, the unusual, and the handcrafted. It has also become a seasonal resource for the best looks at a fraction of the price, with special sales found only at the show. The Clothing Show has continued to grow to now over 300 booths, with truly something for everyone.

May 7th – Summer Fun Essay Contest Begins

Summer is coming to Toronto and Trevor would like to know about your greatest summer experience. Write an essay describing your most amazing summer. There will be prizes for each level so don’t worry if your skill is not the best. Submit the essay by May 22nd to qualify for the prize.

May 7th – Intake Day! NO COMMUNICATIONS CLASS!

It’s ESL intake day, so don’t forget you will have no communications classes.

May 8th – Find a Job Workshop

Ok, you have your resume, you have practiced your interview skills, how can you find a job? Well KGIC is here to help you again. Learn the best ways to find a job in Toronto. Details: Meet on the 6th floor after school in Bombardier Classroom.

May 9th – CN Tower Tour

Toronto’s most recognized landmark must be a seen on any visit to the city. We will gather after classes (4:30 pm) and go to the CN Tower via TTC. Details: We will meet in front of Yanela’s desk on the 4th floor at 4:30 pm. The cost is just $15!

May 10th – Conquest Canada Third Meeting (IMPORTANT)

This meeting requires MANDATORY attendance. We will determine the final groups and assign teachers to the RV’s. It will be a fun and exciting meeting. GET READY THIS ONCE A YEAR EVENT WILL BE LEGENARY.

May 12th – MLB Baseball, Toronto vs. Tampa Bay

The Blue-Jays are playing against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. The best part is the price! Details: Meet on Front Street outside the Skydome at 6:30. The cost is just 18 dollars for seats in the 100 section. Too expensive? Ask Trevor about other ticket options

May 14thHumber College Presentation

Humber College will be stopping by for a brief presentation about the courses it offers. If you are interested in gaining a post-secondary education here in Canada this is a great way to learn what might be required, and what you can study. Meet in Vancouver Classroom at 4:30 to join this amazing presentation.

May 15th – Resume Workshop

Come and learn how to improve your resume from our practicum coordinator Trevor Marshall. Meet on the 6th floor at 4:30 on Tuesday. Don’t forget to bring a rough-draft of your English resume.

May 16th – We Will Rock You! Musical

See some live entertainment and enjoy many different samples of beer and cocktails. It will be a great night for alcohol at Toronto’s Historic Distillery District. What could be finer for a Tuesday evening than a dance/boat cruise on Lake Ontario? We can enjoy the skyline of Toronto from the cruise boat. Dance music will create a club atmosphere on the ship as we tour the harbour for 4 hours. The cost is just $18, a small price to pay for such a great night of fun.

May 25th – Conquest Canada Final Meeting

The FINAL meeting for Conquest Canada 2007. If you have any final questions, concerns or ideas please don’t forget to attend. We will be departing on Monday morning so make sure you are prepared.

HEY I'M BACK! ... and it's April


Check out the April Schedule! It is another great month here at KGIC Toronto. We have a LOT of new students. Please make them feel welcome tomorrow as they start their first classes. Lots of good activities take place this week as well.

Tomorrow (Tuesday) we have Interview Workshop. You can learn Job Interview Skills by attending. Trevor has some knowledge on this subject that he isn't afraid to tell you about. Meet in Bombardier classroom on the 6th floor at 4:30 to attend.

Wednesday we have the Walking Tour of Downtown. The weather is much better these days for a walking tour. NO MORE COLD! :) We will meet after school at 4:30 in front of Yanela's desk. Please join us. The cost is FREE.

Thursday it's an Easter tradition, colouring Easter Eggs. After classes at 4:30 meet in Vancouver Classroom, the cost is FREE!

Friday is the TRIP TO NEW YORK! Trevor MIGHT be attending, but he's not so sure, but we KNOW Jane (our wonderful ESL teacher) will be going. Make sure to pack well and enjoy the wonderful city of NEW YORK. You will have an amazing time, but sign up soon! The space is limited!

Saturday if you are not going to New York you should join us for a Maple Syrup tour. We'll go outside of Toronto to a great place the Bruce Mills Conservation Area. When we arrive we will have a chance to enjoy nature and learn about how they make Maple Syrup.
